Training Opportunity: Ending Poverty by Developing People

The debate over which types of development work yield the most sustainable results is over; those closely examining the issues see that poverty alleviation programs aimed towards education, training, and community organizing result in greater long-term empowerment than those programs geared towards developing and distributing items such as mosquito nets or water filters.

This conclusion is useful, but it does not empower us to take action. It is necessary to learn better ways of designing and implementing development programs that employ this understanding. A simple desire to help or do good is not enough; background knowledge and specific skills are required to effectively engage in Human Development efforts.

On Saturday May 26th and Sunday May 27th, Cory Glazier, a student and practitioner of Human-Centered Development, will host a 2-day skill-building workshop titled “ENDING POVERTY BY DEVELOPING PEOPLE.”

Participants interested in the theoretical and/ or practical principles of Human-Centered Poverty Alleviation strategies are highly encouraged to attend, and will learn effective strategies for supporting communities in identifying their own
problems, discovering their own solutions and implementing those solutions with their own available resources.

This event is expected to fill up soon, so visit the event site to learn more and register.
