Micro-Finance in San Diego

Are you Interested or Committed?

If you’re reading this blog then we can both be pretty sure you’re interested…but you could also be lost. It is our hope that you are, in fact, interested and that you are ready to move closer to commitment. But what is it specifically that we hope you are interested or committed to?As a visitor to the San Diego Microfinance Alliance (SDMFA) website we hope that you are interested in microfinance. However, it is our hope that through the educational opportunities that we, along with our partners, provide you will be prepared to commit to playing an active role in the success of microfinance initiatives in the San Diego region.

What is the difference between being interested and being committed? It has been said that when you’re interested, you do whatever is most convenient. Conversely, when you are committed, you do whatever it takes. At this point you might be wondering, “What could be my first step toward commitment?” Fortunately, we already have an answer for you.

The SDMFA will be co-hosting a Microfinance 101 course with The Center for International Development, Point Loma Nazarene University. This course includes class discussion, case studies, and lectures from distinguished professors committed to educating others on how to eliminate poverty through microfinance.

Still not ready to commit? If there is still any hesitation on whether you’re ready to take this first step then we believe we can help. If you’re concerned the class will be too complex…the professors are known for taking complex topics and making them easy to understand. If you’re concerned about taking another semester of class…this class is only during Tuesday nights in October. If you’re concerned about the cost…this class costs less than the recommended reading (Banker to the Poor and A World Without Poverty- in hardback).

Now that you know the lengths that SDMFA is willing to go for your benefit isn’t the success of microfinance in San Diego worth committing to? We think so.

We look forward to having you join us in a few weeks, unless you have a conflict in your schedule like the writer of this blog…bummer. Fortunately, if you take the course you can help me when I need a loan for my next class at USD…Take care!
