Micro-Finance in San Diego

Are You Interested in a Micro-Finance Internship?

Micro-Finance is a rapidly growing field, and an internship can be a great way to gain experience and exposure. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, they offer lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 US cities, the IRC restores safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. Each year, thousands of refugees are invited by the U.S. government to seek safety and freedom. Forced to flee conflict or persecution, many refugees have survived for years against incredible odds. Rescued refugees step off the plane with next to nothing but their dignity, hope and determination. In San Diego and many other regional offices across the country, the IRC helps refugees to rebuild their lives.

The IRC is currently looking for a Web Developer Intern (four-hour shifts, twice a week) and a Graphic Design Intern (preferably two three-hour shifts a week). The Web Developer intern will be working on building accessible and sustainable business websites for IRC’s Microenterprise refugee clients, developing client’s online self-sufficiency through training and one-on-one consultations, and increasing the online reach and capabilities of our client’s businesses. Qualifications include cultural sensitivity, expert knowledge of WordPress and coding experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and/or jQuery. The Graphic Design intern will be working with the Center for Financial Opportunity: Transportation developing culturally diverse outreach & informational material to distribute to clients, and should have knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite package (primarily Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) and be culturally sensitive.

The internships will last for a length of approximately three months, and times are very flexible. For more information, please contact Ryan Linstrom, IRC Microenterprise Marketing Coordinator at [email protected] or (619) 641-7510 x299.
